Japanese music producer Akimitsu Homma (“AK”) was born in Osaka on December 19, 1964.
He started playing the piano at the age of 4. With the influence of his parents’ love for music, he, too, gradually became absorbed in music.
AK participated in many contests as an amateur keyboardist of a band, winning numerous awards. In the wake of those events, he decided to become a professional musician.

In 1988, AK enrolled in the "MAICA Music Laboratory," where he learned composition and arrangement from Masataka Matsutoya (a member of "TIN PAN ALLEY"). He moved to Tokyo in 1989 to begin his career.
His work as a professional musician/keyboardist began with concert tours of famous Japanese idols such as Wink and Shizuka Kudo. Japan was enjoying its unprecedented idol boom at this time period, so his work there was very exciting.

Between 1991 and 1998, AK was the keyboardist/arranger for Noriyuki Makihara’s concerts, where he began to establish a sense of popular music of his own. He was also the concert director for these shows. AK became a contributor to the activation of Japanese entertainment. His vision was to create unforgettable one-time-only shows that can compete with the quality of shows in Las Vegas.

“Somehow nostalgic, but new.” He was trying to create universal popular music that is not influenced by the era. In fact, the music created by him has been loved throughout the ages. He produced Komi Hirose’s 6th album “welcome-muzik” in 1997, reaching number one on the ORICON chart. He arranged Ayumi Hamasaki’s debut album “A Song for xx” in 1999, which became a million-seller and won the Best Album Award of the 41st Japan Record Award.

In 1996, he established his company, "bluesofa."
Subsequently, he worked on composition, arrangement, and produced for the major debut of the band Porno Graffiti in 1999. AK wrote “Apollo,” the band’s debut single. Although this was his first composition ever, it became a big hit, and the hits continued thereafter.
Porno Graffiti’s 4th single “Saudade,” which AK composed and produced, became a million-seller. The band appeared on the Red and White Singing Contest that year. AK composed “Ageha Chou (means the swallowtail butterfly) ,” their 6th single, becoming their second million-seller.

AK currently works with many artists. He is the bandmaster and producer for "IkimonoGakari," and the bandmaster for "Momoiro Clover Z."
His work is not limited to the popular music scene. He co-produced Nao Touyama's “Haikyo no Hato (means the dove in ruins)” in 2002, with Kitaro who is a Grammy Award winner.
He composed and produced the Japanese drum group Yamato's album “YAMATO BEAT Vol.1” in 2012, which has received high praises worldwide.

AK works to spread Japan’s original music, "J-POP," to the world.
